Czy kiedykolwiek zastanawiałeś się, czemu gumka na końcu ołówka jest nieproporcjonalnie mała w stosunku do rozmiaru samego ołówka? To jak wskazówka dla użytkownika, by mądrze go używał.
Wraz z ołówkiem otrzymujesz bowiem limitowaną ilość błędów, które wolno ci popełnić i wymazać. Nic dziwnego, że większość z nas używa dodatkowej gumki do ścierania by zapewnić sobie więcej wolności do popełniania błędów, żeby czuć mniej stresu i więcej spokoju. Niestety, nie każdy może sobie pozwolić na dodatkową gumkę, a nawet gdyby było to możliwe, świat biznesu ma nieco inne zasady.
Technologia zapewnia lepsze rezultaty, ale pozbawia ludzi inteligencji
Sukces organizacji zależy od kilku zmiennych: niektóre z nich dotyczą finansów, inne lojalności i satysfakcji klientów. Pozwolenie sobie na utratę ich niechybnie doprowadzi do straty biznesu. Dlatego właśnie ważna jest “zasada ołówka” – możesz popełnić tylko tyle błędów, ile maleńka gumeczka na końcu ołówka jest w stanie wymazać. Jak tego dokonać? Przede wszystkim dobre zarządzanie jakością i ryzykiem, i efektywny audyt – w specjalistów tych właśnie branży należy inwestować.
Dawniej, kiedy jeszcze używano maszyn do pisania zamiast komputerów, każdy błąd zmuszał piszącego do zaczęcia od nowa i marnowania czasu, atramentu, papieru i energii. W konsekwencji jednak doprowadzało to do tego, że potrafiono pisać szybko i niemal bezbłędnie. Oto właśnie przykład wprowadzenia “teorii ołówka” w życie.
Teraz jednak technologia uwalnia nas od tego typu błędów poprzez autokorektę, możliwość usuwania, kopiowania i wklejania. Technologia zapewnia nam wolność popelniania i poprawiania błędów. Z drugiej strony jednak technologia uzależnia nas od siebie, i pomimo oszczędności czasu i unikania trwałych błędów, pozbawia ona nas umiejętności kontrolowania naszych błędów. Technologia zapewnia lepsze rezultaty, ale pozbawia nas inteligencji.
Ludzie doceniają wysiłek i oryginalność bardziej niż ostateczne rezultaty
Na czym zależy ci bardziej: na wynikach czy inteligencji twoich pracowników? To na pewno nie jest łatwe pytanie, a odpowiedź na nie zależy od oddziału w którym pracujesz – czy HR, skoncentrowane raczej na ludziach, czy finanse, skupione na rezultatach? Jaka atmosfera panuje w danej organizacji, chodzi o długo- czy krótkoterminowe rezultaty?
Jako przykład, niektóre produkty są sprzedawane jako “ręcznie robione”, i zazwyczaj o wiele droższe, bardziej szanowane i noszone lub używane z dumą. Wydają nam się bardziej “ludzkie”, bo nie zostały masowo wyprodukowane przez maszynę. Te produkty są cenione tak wysoko, ponieważ ich twórca zastosował się do “teorii ołówka”. Ludzie są bardziej skłonni zaakceptować niedoskonałość produktu stworzonego ludzką ręką, podczas gdy najmniejsza nieprawidłowość w masowo produkowanym zakupie byłaby natychmiast przez nich skrytykowana. Ludzie doceniają wysiłek i oryginalność bardziej niż końcowe rezultaty.
“Teoria ołówka” stawia przed nami wyzwanie, powinniśmy jednak być wdzięczni – niektóre ołówki wcale nie mają gumki, która wytarłaby ich błędy!

Globally, 2020 has been a year like no other. Coronavirus pandemic caused a massive business disruption; transformation has been key in supporting employees and catalyzing workplace changes. There was a rush to adapt and reinvent Business Models. Organizations had to rethink and reconsider how they deliver services and strengthen their Organizations through a forward-thinking Digital strategy. To be more agile and responsive in such uncertain times, we need to respond to challenges and adapt quickly to new scenarios by moving from rigid hierarchies to leaner and more flexible structures.
But what about Mental Health at Work, and why is it essential?

How can Organizations increase employees’ resilience and embed sustainable Leadership behaviors in the post-covid reality?
Dr. Irada Aghamaliyeva introduced the Mindfulness practice in the Workplace and highlighted its benefits on a large scale: improved wellbeing and resilience on a physical level; positive emotions, self-regulation, empathy and awareness of social dynamics; learning and innovation thanks to the implementation of flexible thinking, intuition and problem-solving processes. So breaking the stigma is possible, starting from personal wellbeing to sustain positive energy and fuel resilience.
About the Power of Empathetic and Authentic Leadership, Dr. Rima Ghose Chowdhury (EVP & Chief Human Resources Officers at Datamatics Global Services) stresses the importance of Leadership roles today. The virtual environment employees are working in, makes them more vulnerable due to a lack of balance between emotional and authenticity traits. Authenticity is the primary factor in effective leadership, regardless of the leadership style.
