Many managers face this problem with their employees, and they try the fingerprint system to create more discipline and still this doesn’t leave a powerful impact.
There are several reasons that make employees arrive late at work, but be sure that there are many employees who feel guilty about that and they are unable to help themselves.
1-Attitude
Some are late because of the Egyptian culture, people are used to being late (this started to change recently), and they know that “it is okay to be late”. So, eventually this became an attitude. Actually applying the fingerprint system in this case might help.
2-Demotivation
When a person is motivated or does something that he/she loves, they will be keen to be there on time. Not all people find the job that they love, but as a manager you can study the personalities of your employees and show them how they can love the job. At other cases maybe the employee already loves the job, but he/she feels that he/she is disengaged and not having much attention from the manager. Show your employees that you care about them and keep them engaged.
3-Personal Problems
Perhaps none of the above is the case, but the employee simply has a family problem that no one knows about or a certain health issue. As a manager try to become a psychiatrist to your employees: Get to know their problems, help them by all means, for they are your assets. Protect them.
4-Other Solutions
Have you ever tried calling your employees in the morning to wake them up? If they are having a problem in responding to the alarm clock, I am sure they will NOT have a problem with answering the early phone call from their manager.
