“Exploring Smarter Workforce “ Jobmaster / IBM – KenexA Event

Journalism: Ahmed Saadallah
The Jobmaster / IBM – Kenexa event (held at the Fairmont Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt) included talks on numerous topics related to the new partnership between Jobmaster group and IBM-Kenexa. Most of the sessions introduced IBM- Kenexa and its importance to Human Resources leaders and organizations, Jobmaster Services and an enticing session about managing and rating performance.

Hesham El-Badawy (CEO of Jobmaster Group)
Hesham El-Badawy (CEO of Jobmaster Group) and Mahmoud Abdullah (GM Commercial of Jobmaster Group) talked about the group history and displayed a video titled “There for you”. There for you is a video that shows the extreme satisfaction of prestigious clients in the Middle-East market, the gulf countries and worldwide organizations working with Jobmaster on projects to attract, train and retain the best calibers providing best consultancy services to these organizations.
Mohamed Emad , Executive – IBM Collaborative Solutions at IBM company.
Talked about the trend in the market and why many companies choose IBM. Additionally, he talked about how IBM can provide customized smart solutions to its clients; presenting IBM Kenexa Assessments, Talent acquisition solutions, talent engagement and talent framework.
Robert Mosley – Jobmaster Global Remuneration Expert
Session Name: “Performance Appraisal Rating and Managing the Distribution Curve”
He introduced the trend of performance management and performance rating demonstrating how employee rating can affect employee engagement positively. Mosley says that the best practice is to have a 6-scale rating; still, 5- Scale rating is acceptable. Also, he introduced to HR professionals and senior CEOs the wording and language used in rating scales and how organizations must avoid words such as “satisfactory or average performance” because employees do not get motivated hearing these words. On the contrary, he has advised the audience to use words such as “Well done and Bravo” just like Google company.
Robert has covered weighting of “objectives and goals” versus “competencies and behaviors” and forced distributions of ratings and advantages and disadvantages. The result was that according to the best practice in the middle-east is to have 60% weigh for objectives and 40% for behaviors. He extended his elaboration on why the bell-curve is not working and how much skew on the curve can organizations tolerate. He advised senior management to use first the “Snap Ratio” which is the percentage of employees above satisfactory divided by the percentage of employees below satisfactory. According to this ratio when we reach 3.5, managers can use the forced distribution to manage performance.
Questions were posed from participants and got answered followed by an advice about the inflation rate in Egypt and what should companies do regarding it. He observes that the price of the dollar to the Egyptian pound is irrelevant and that organizations need not to do anything that is permanent at least for six-months. He predicts that inflation will eventually drop and stabilize at ( 13-15% ).
Benoit Hardy-Vallee , IBM Kenexa Leader Middle-East and Africa
Session Name: “ Predicting Workplace Challenges through HR Analytics ”
Benoit talked about the business analytics and its importance to provide solutions for better decision making and how performance management can be executed through cloud solutions and software. Also he stressed on the importance of adding the people data (HR Data) to the business data to align company performance.
There is no doubt that the project between jobmaster and IBM KEnexa will be a value added to organizations worldwide. The technology is really transforming the business to a high level of activity and smart solutions

Wellbeing @ Work Summit Middle East 2021 – where balance, resilience and authenticity break the Mental Health Stigma

Written by: Cinzia Nitti
Globally, 2020 has been a year like no other. Coronavirus pandemic caused a massive business disruption; transformation has been key in supporting employees and catalyzing workplace changes. There was a rush to adapt and reinvent Business Models. Organizations had to rethink and reconsider how they deliver services and strengthen their Organizations through a forward-thinking Digital strategy. To be more agile and responsive in such uncertain times, we need to respond to challenges and adapt quickly to new scenarios by moving from rigid hierarchies to leaner and more flexible structures.
But what about Mental Health at Work, and why is it essential?
What’s the Office of the Future?
Within the Wellbeing @ Work Summit Middle East 2021, HR Leaders tried to normalize the conversation about Mental Health by putting the topic first, enabling self-care and professional support, raising awareness, and building knowledge around its related issues. Nowadays, personal and work life are more intertwined than ever, so it becomes vital to create balance: the more employees feel free to talk about Mental Health, the more they can prevent struggle and breakout at the Workplace. HR leaders play a crucial role in making an IMPACT by pushing new solutions, promoting work-life balance, redesign workloads, and supporting their Teams.
In this general frame, Irada Aghamaliyeva (MENA Diversity, Inclusiveness & Wellbeing Leader at EY) affirmed: “Workplaces that are inclusive foster enhanced employee wellbeing; employees with high levels of wellbeing are more inclusive”. How can Organizations increase employees’ resilience and embed sustainable Leadership behaviors in the post-covid reality?
Dr. Irada Aghamaliyeva introduced the Mindfulness practice in the Workplace and highlighted its benefits on a large scale: improved wellbeing and resilience on a physical level; positive emotions, self-regulation, empathy and awareness of social dynamics; learning and innovation thanks to the implementation of flexible thinking, intuition and problem-solving processes. So breaking the stigma is possible, starting from personal wellbeing to sustain positive energy and fuel resilience.
About the Power of Empathetic and Authentic Leadership, Dr. Rima Ghose Chowdhury (EVP & Chief Human Resources Officers at Datamatics Global Services) stresses the importance of Leadership roles today. The virtual environment employees are working in, makes them more vulnerable due to a lack of balance between emotional and authenticity traits. Authenticity is the primary factor in effective leadership, regardless of the leadership style. Putting employees first as a strategic priority and hearing their voices to guide strategy; embracing agility to work more effectively in tumultuous time; including a multigenerational work-force: these are the key concepts within Dr. Rima’s motto “Empowering is to enable”. Through motivation and filling emotional support needs, the Empowering Teams Process leads to employees’ safety, esteem, and self-actualization.
