The contemporary HR person needs to know more about HR, yet even more about other things.
1- Marketing
Nowadays HR departments started bringing marketing methods into HR practices.
Consumer behavior researches are used in understanding employee behaviors. Market segmentation has been used to measure how motivation affects different segments of employees.
2- Public Relations
PR is now used by the HR in 2 ways. The first is to communicate the HR plans and ideas with the rest of the organization. The second is approach in using PR in HR is the increasing number of HR conferences organized. In these conferences each speaker acts as a public relations agent for his/her organization.
3- Psychology
This science became needed in HR people in order to build a better understanding towards employee happiness and mental being. Many HR people are taking courses and reading books in psychology.
4- Information Technology
IT is the future as many jobs are being replaced by new software programs. HR must be always up to date in order to establish a smart connection with the IT department.
Most of all HR people should be learners, because whatever they learn will always relate to the human capital.
