Most people use the alarm clock to help them not to drift into deep sleep. Individuals know that if they go into deep sleep or even a short nap, they will not be able to go to their work or appointments on time, so they will miss a lot. Can you imagine if you do not have an alarm clock at your home or on your mobile phone? How would you manage the most precious thing in your life, time?

Performance appraisal is considered an alarm clock in the professional life of any employee because it is an alert of their performance. They could know whether their performance is satisfactory or not, according to their managers, and whether their efforts are sufficient to perform the assigned tasks.

In terms of the importance of a performance appraisal, employees have the full right to be informed of their performance within the organization because it enables them to discuss their strengths and weaknesses with their managers and to know whether they are able to fulfill the standards required by their workplace. It also allows them to identify the skills that may be lacking and should be acquired or improved upon. Unfortunately, some of the organizations or companies do not give this right to their employees although salaries for individual performance are based on performance appraisal results, a system called merit-based pay.

Employees should not be taken aback by their own appraisals because managers have such an alarm clock. Policies within organizations and various companies should press the button to wake employees and provide them with the opportunity of a fresh start.
