Growing women’s business event driving inspiration and collaboration

The flourishing and ever-popular Thrive Woman speaker sessions held its fifth successful event at the end of September in the plush Vida Hotel, Downtown Dubai, attended by an audience of ninety. The brain child of Farida Gilmore (a Career Coach and mother of three young children), Thrive is an emergent women-lead speaker event showcasing the personal stories behind the achievements of some of Dubai’s most inspirational working women, motivating others to create careers they love.

September’s Thrive audience were treated to personal stories by Anna Al-Qasimi Roberts of Pulse 95 radio breakfast show and founder of The Nudge Effect; Sara Tabana of Cerner and founder of Roots Bistro (the Middle East’s first sustainable restaurant); and, Assia Riccio of Evolvin’ Women (an initiative that trains vulnerable women in Africa to work in international level hospitality, returning to their home countries with new skills to enrich their family, community and nation’s economy).

Thrive Woman founder, Farida, left corporate life after having her second child to pursue a more meaningful career in coaching and in creating the Thrive platform, an idea she says she had for years but was too fearful to start. Of September’s event, Farida commented, “We listened to the feedback we had been getting from women who were unable to attend our morning events but who wanted to get involved in what we were doing with Thrive. We’re so pleased that we were able to hold our first evening event so that more working women were able to hear our amazing speakers and join the exciting and important conversations we have at Thrive around women and their work.”

One of the many memorable moments from September’s event was during the Q&A panel discussion when an audience member asked Assia Riccio what she most needs help with in her business. That ignited a conversation which has since set in motion a group brainstorming session between Assia and members of the audience who believe in her cause and want to genuinely help. It certainly is refreshing to see such authentic collaboration and desire to help coming out of a business event.

Farida and her team’s passion to provide a megaphone for working women to share their personal stories and strive for better is at the core of Thrive’s rapid growth and success. And when audience members give comments like, “The best thing about Thrive is walking away feeling inspired to do amazing things!”, you know they are doing something right.

The next Thrive event will take place at the end of October. Stay tuned.
