Experiencing ROI Certification – ROI Institute Award Winner for Best Published ROI Article 2017/2018

Written By: Mariham Magdy – Winner of the ROI Institute Award for Best Published ROI Article 2017/2018at the Annual Center for Talent Reporting (CTR) conference in Dallas, TX

“People will forget what you said,

People will forget what you did,

But People will never forget how you made them feel

Maya Angelou

This quote simply summarizes my golden opportunity to meet in person with Dr. Jack Phillips the World Renowned and Award Winning Thought Leader, and the Developer of the ROI Methodology™.

I found it difficult, from where I can start my article, is it by talking about his breakthrough in developing the ROI Methodology™? His world-wide achievements? How have his contributions helped a great deal in changing the future and the scale of application of many projects world-wide?

A lot to think about when you try to write about Dr. Jack Phillips!

In spite of all that, I cannot hold myself to speak in the first place about how this person lets you feel when you meet him, how simple and warm this person is when you deal closely with him.

Although, he has already reached a peak as a scientist, researcher, consultant, author and educator, his pure soul will rapidly let you forget, for a while, all about his fame, and his honorable history to focus instead to observe:

His supporting view to his students,
How generous is really this person in providing knowledge and assistance whenever needed,
His caring soul to the minimal details of all surroundings,

When attending a workshop for Dr. Jack Phillips I strongly advise you not to prison yourself in the perceptions of how the workshop will be proceeding. It is the time for a life-time experience you need to leave yourself to live as it is, without imposing rules or worrying about a sequence.

You will hopefully have the opportunity to live with him the experience of a 45-year journey in a 5-day workshop. So it worth to liberate your mind from any rules and just benefit.

You will benefit not only from the workshop, the knowledge and the practice, but also from the savvy of a confident researcher who was able to hold on and prove the reliability and validity of a new methodology succeeded to revive a lot of non-capital projects, in addition to demonstrating HR’s role as a revenue enhancer for organizations!
There is a lot to learn from Dr. Jack Phillips as a person;

I remember my first feeling when I was informed that my name was confirmed to attend the ROI workshop held in Cairo, delivered by Dr. Jack Phillips on May 2018. I had different feelings and kept wondering, “Am I going to meet Jack Phillips in person? How would he be like? Would he accept me to ask him about his beginning and how did he start his researches?”

Having all these thoughts inside me I was astonished that on my first day of the workshop and upon my entrance to the hall he just came himself greeting me modestly saying, “I am Jack Phillips, nice to meet you” with a very humble spirit, letting me feel as if it was him who was waiting to meet me.

When attending a workshop for Dr. Phillips, you don’t merely learn from his knowledge, mentality, experience and practice; but far beyond this you experience as well the persistence of a researcher who was able to change the future of many organizations. This thought not only does it inspire you as a learner to believe in practicing his approach, but it also encourages you as a striver, not to lose hope in your attempts and your ability to make a change.

A lot to learn as well from the ROI Methodology™️ developed by him:
Apart from the scientific approach to evaluate the efficiency of non-capital investments and calculate their ROI, one of the most important gains you will come up with is the scientific mapping your mind will get accustomed to. You will learn how to visualize the repercussions of every business initiative being taken, from the least to the most important on different levels and scales, considering all stakeholders.

From my humble point of view, this is one of the most valuable outcomes of the methodology. As this multidimensional view offered by the ROI Methodology™ has an excellent role to enhance professionals’ strategic planning skills and thus teach them to priory plan and get prepared for the eventual risks of their transactions with an anticipated foresight.

This foresight can dramatically help to achieve their goal and beyond, by anticipating how to deal with risks that might cause the program failure from the very beginning, and thus acquire more confidence in realizing the program auspicated success.

The ROI Methodology™ provides an excellent balanced view between five main axes of any project: human reaction, prerequisite knowledge, ability to apply, business impact and ROI consideration. I believe that this perfect mix represents the crucial areas a business leader must attentively dedicate the proper efforts to them, in order to ensure the project’s success.

Another valuable outcome you will get to learn along getting accustomed to the ROI Methodology™ applications is the skillful consideration you get to train yourself to have for all the stakeholders of your project. In addition to learning the importance of giving the proper value and time needed for knowledge acquisition and application requirements to perfectly reach an optimal business impact.

Moreover, the ROI Methodology™ highlights the fact that in order to undergo a comprehensive fair evaluation for every business initiative, it is important to value the intangible benefits as well as the tangible ones. It is up to the case to overweigh one over another, considering other supporting factors, in order to arrive to the best decision (whether to support the initiative or not).

You will discover, throughout your journey, that in some cases you might support a project only for the intangible benefits that are able to foster the business far beyond the tangible ones.

The strong community the ROI institute was able to grow world-wide, represents one of the most competitive edges that support learners to pursue their projects and achieve the outcomes of their studies. One of the most valuable benefits you will get to gain as well is the professional community and network you will get to be connected to through the ROI institute. Other ROI professionals world-wide, with which you will have the availability to connect with and learn from each other challenges.

Furthermore, the ROI Institute recognizes exemplary practices in the application of the ROI Methodology™ and honors individuals for their outstanding work in measurement and evaluation; so your success to learn and apply the methodology will moreover let you eligible to one of the most recognized rewards world-wide.

Finally, I would say that the ROI experience in every essence; is one of the most valuable experiences you might pass by throughout your learning career, which can perfectly model your overall analytical, evaluation and planning skills as well as your strategic thinking.

From the bottom of my heart; Thanks Dr. Jack Phillips!

Wellbeing @ Work Summit Middle East 2021 – where balance, resilience and authenticity break the Mental Health Stigma

Written by: Cinzia Nitti

Globally, 2020 has been a year like no other. Coronavirus pandemic caused a massive business disruption; transformation has been key in supporting employees and catalyzing workplace changes. There was a rush to adapt and reinvent Business Models. Organizations had to rethink and reconsider how they deliver services and strengthen their Organizations through a forward-thinking Digital strategy. To be more agile and responsive in such uncertain times, we need to respond to challenges and adapt quickly to new scenarios by moving from rigid hierarchies to leaner and more flexible structures.

But what about Mental Health at Work, and why is it essential?

What’s the Office of the Future?

Within the Wellbeing @ Work Summit Middle East 2021, HR Leaders tried to normalize the conversation about Mental Health by putting the topic first, enabling self-care and professional support, raising awareness, and building knowledge around its related issues. Nowadays, personal and work life are more intertwined than ever, so it becomes vital to create balance: the more employees feel free to talk about Mental Health, the more they can prevent struggle and breakout at the Workplace. HR leaders play a crucial role in making an IMPACT by pushing new solutions, promoting work-life balance, redesign workloads, and supporting their Teams.

In this general frame, Irada Aghamaliyeva (MENA Diversity, Inclusiveness & Wellbeing Leader at EY) affirmed: “Workplaces that are inclusive foster enhanced employee wellbeing; employees with high levels of wellbeing are more inclusive”. How can Organizations increase employees’ resilience and embed sustainable Leadership behaviors in the post-covid reality?

Dr. Irada Aghamaliyeva introduced the Mindfulness practice in the Workplace and highlighted its benefits on a large scale: improved wellbeing and resilience on a physical level; positive emotions, self-regulation, empathy and awareness of social dynamics; learning and innovation thanks to the implementation of flexible thinking, intuition and problem-solving processes. So breaking the stigma is possible, starting from personal wellbeing to sustain positive energy and fuel resilience.

About the Power of Empathetic and Authentic Leadership, Dr. Rima Ghose Chowdhury (EVP & Chief Human Resources Officers at Datamatics Global Services) stresses the importance of Leadership roles today. The virtual environment employees are working in, makes them more vulnerable due to a lack of balance between emotional and authenticity traits. Authenticity is the primary factor in effective leadership, regardless of the leadership style. Putting employees first as a strategic priority and hearing their voices to guide strategy; embracing agility to work more effectively in tumultuous time; including a multigenerational work-force: these are the key concepts within Dr. Rima’s motto “Empowering is to enable”. Through motivation and filling emotional support needs, the Empowering Teams Process leads to employees’ safety, esteem, and self-actualization.
