I believe there are many facts, as per the nature of our job, duly hidden from the employee. A lot of people do not really imagine the efforts many of HR professionals have to do in the background in order to fairly manage many employee-related activities.
Playing a continuous role of maintaining the balance between: on the one hand, the employees’ and the employer’s mutual rights and obligations, and on the other hand, between the employees’ internal & external environment, is not an easy task at all!
Moreover, in order to work proactively to deal with different challenges related to the employees’ well-being, HR professionals really have to do a lot of assignments to keep up in an acceptable pace with the aggressive changes we go through on a daily basis. This is due to the rapid economic, political, technological & environmental disruptions.
What is not really clear to the employees from the outside, is the quantum of efforts, conflicts, tactics and challenges the HR people go through, to be able to accomplish that balance and remain accountable for their responsibility.
For an HR professional, in order to provide an effective management to the different HR functions and activities throughout the Organization, he/she has to follow up diligently the HR practices from three dimensions:
- The first is; the latest HR trends from a global and scientific point of view, customizing then whatever could be applied locally, in line with our culture.
- The second is; the latest HR trends from a rather practical than only scientific point of view, aiming by this to maintain the Employer Brand in the market, as well as, the external fairness criteria owed to the employee.
- The third is; the close and accurate follow up on the country’s ongoing political and economic changes, to perform an early evaluation on how this could impact both the employees and the employer and thus recommend the best approaches to pursue proactively.
I feel so proud for belonging to the HR community, when I see how many conferences, workshops, reunions and events are held on regular basis throughout the year. Inviting all HR practitioners to exchange their knowledge, to share their experiences and to discuss together the upcoming challenges and how we shall be prepared to deal with and welcome them.
In many cases, it is not that obvious to employees that we carry out all of these activities, feeling responsible for voicing their needs and give directions to business leaders.
Again, it is not at all easy to carry the responsibility of HR management in a company. It is not only limited to what appears to you in the Organization, from the daily activities carried out by the HR, but what you do not really see is rather the background efforts exerted internally and externally; in order to maintain the balance and to provide a quality service to both the employees and the employer.
In the HR kitchen still remains a lot of hidden efforts and assignments carried out continuously by HR professionals everywhere!
