I have been thinking a lot about how to structure this article, in order to maintain the HR editorial line. Then I asked myself: “what if for once we put aside the sectorial meaning and focus on the merely Human side of things?” I liked the idea; sure my HR Revolution mates would all agree. A necessary analysis based not on technical topics, but rather on social and human aspects in such an unexpectedly global tough moments.
A lot of time passed to observe what’s happening around the world. An uncontrollable thing called COVID-19 affected our life without even giving us a chance to realize what is it?
- Economic Facts: we only know that the human dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic reached far beyond the critical health response. All aspects of our future will be affected: economic, social and developmental on a global scale. From workplaces, to enterprises, to national and global economies, getting this right is probably the biggest challenge governments are called to dialogue and co-operate with front line social actors, employers, workers, and volunteers to overcome an unprecedented crisis. Not to forget the uncountable number of families in need due to mass firing, drastical salary cuts, unpaid leaves. Some of them recently told me: blessed those very few who can still smart and work from home!
- Social Facts: social distancing, lock-down, quarantine. The most common words that forcefully invaded our personal vocabulary lately. Should I stop on each of them to try to explain their meaning? I’ll try to do that through my personal point of view: it depends on how we want to bring the best out of such “forced” circumstances, by letting frustrations and fears flow, embracing them, alternating bad feelings with a proactive response and healthy daily routine – no matter what. Rather than focusing on the negative aspects of the quarantine, let’s look for positive and productive ways to use our time by keeping the mind sharp. Prioritizing meaningful connections despite the physical distance, over waste of time in complaining and getting used to bad, unhealthy habits.
- Human Facts: love, family ties and relationships, emotional balance. What about these undervalued traits? As humans, coping with COVID-19 represents one of the biggest challenges. It comes natural for us the desire to feel understood by others. Feel them closer, share our thoughts and emotions. Establish and maintain a sense of connection and reassurance even without knowing what is going to happen in the future. The emotional balance occurs when we support each other through difficult moments. Taking time to listen to our families and friends about their worries and concerns associated with the COVID-19, and being willingly available to answer questions and share perspectives, will help maintaining our individuality and human value, while giving others our emotional support and care.
Humans are social creatures who need to feel connected to others. So this is how the main idea of the article “Re-Discovering the Human dimension” turned into a love letter. Moments like this, reminds us that we are all called upon to be our best selves, with strength, patience, understanding and solidarity. The HR Revolution Middle-East Family wants to thank, embrace and spread love and support to all her readers, wishing them the best return to the Human Dimension.
